Islam, What You Need to Know in the Twenty-First Century
A Primer for Peace

By Ronald Lee Cobb

At its core, Islam is a religion of peace. Its very name implies Salaam, Shalom, and Peace. In its first 100 years Islam controlled Spain, all of North Africa, Arabia, and much of the Middle East. Most of its development was peaceful and centered on a “Most Merciful Creator of All Things” emphasis. Europe would have become Islamic if Charles Martel of France in the West and the City of Vienna in the East, had not halted the spread of Islam. Extremists in the Twenty-First Century have too often wrapped themselves in the flag of Islam while they have repeatedly violated many of the teachings of the Qur’an and of the Hadith. You will find that the stories in this book rarely appear in the headlines of Western news media. These stories and their knowledge will help you find peace. Armed with these facts and this inner peace and knowledge, may you help bring more peace to our planet. The vast majority of the followers of Islam want to live in peace and prosperity. Prosperity can only come through understanding and through peace. May the peace of the Loving Creator be with you always on your spiritual journey through life.

Few Quotations from the Book:

I Common Abrahamic-Based Faiths:
A- "Often in the West, Islam is viewed as a totally different faith. Even though Jews and Christians disagree with conclusions of Islam, it should be understood that Islam and the Qur'an combine the concepts of Christian and Hebrew Scriptures with the revelations of Muhammad. The ancient Hebrews and modern Jews claim Abraham as their biological father through the descendents of Isaac; Christians claim Abraham as their spiritual father; and Islam also claims Abraham as its father.

A University of Chicago DNA study of Jews, Palestinians, and Arabs showed that particularly Palestinians genomes and Jewish genomes are similar as indicated not only by similar genes on related chromosomes but also by similar genetic illnesses and predispositions for certain, specific health problems."

B- "Surah 7:180 says, The most beautiful Names belong to Allah ...These Descriptions and Names can only be understood when they are felt in the heart and the soul of the reader....Slow, cartful contemplation of these Names brings healing benefits, riches that only quietness and prayer can fully unfold...This can be a wonderful meditation technique for anyone who believes in a Supreme Being and wants to have a personal contact with the Creator or Loving Higher Power.

Any reader familiar with the Hebrew Scriptures and Christian Scriptures will see several similarities with Hebrew and Christian Scriptures in these majestic and awesome descriptions of God from the Qur'an."

C- "The life of Saladin represents much more than a solitary life of the renewed Islamic leader, it gives us a snapshot look into the ethics, values, and the great soul of the type of the Islamic man of his age that he was."

II Historical:
A- "For over fifteen hundred years Arab peoples had watched the Jews have their own Hebrew Scriptures in their own language. For over five hundred years Arab peoples had watched the Creek Orthodox Christian have their own Christian Scriptures in their own Creek language. Now at last they had their own Holy Qur'an in their own Arab language. It was a huge cultural paradigm shift. Islam and the Qur'an and the message of mohammad almost instantly united all the Arab speaking people. A "people movement" began to sprout from the grass roots of Arab society. It was now time to move out of the Arabian Peninsula to bring this glorious message of an awesome, magnificent, glorious God to all who would listen."

B- "Comments of UN's Sixth Secretary General Boutros Boutros Ghali
"He reported that in January 6th, 2011, which was the holy day of Christmas Eve on the Coptic Christian calendar, "thousands of Muslims showed up at Mass to act as human shield and to show their solidarity with the beleaguered Christian community."

C- "On October 13, 2006, 38 Islamic scholars sent a letter to Pope Benedict XVI of the Roman Catholic Church one month to the day after the Pope had addressed Christian issues and issues of Islam and the need for "genuine dialogue" between both religions. Then on October 13, 2007 138 Islamic scholars sent a more thorough, more more detailed document to Christians around the world, A Common Word between Us and You as a beginningg step in that interfaith dialogue. By 2011 the number of Islamic signatories to a "Common Word" final document had increased to 309 Islamic scholars."
